Juno-nominated rockers Jonas & The Massive Attraction make their highly anticipated return to Montreal for a hometown performance at Club Soda (1225 boul. St-Laurent) with special guest The Trews on Friday, April 1st, 2011 at 8 p.m.
2010 was quite a year for Jonas & The Massive Attraction, with the release of their first new album in four years in September entitled Big Slice. The album blasted out of the blocks, hitting Top 15 in sales across the country on Soundscan in the first week. Their first-ever nationally charted single, also titled Big Slice, became the surprise hit of the fourth quarter at rock radio, cracking the national Top 10 and peaking at # 7 on the Mediabase Active Rock Charts in January 2011, alongside some of the biggest names in rock, including Ozzy Osbourne, Kings of Leon and Three Days Grace. Big Slice is also being featured this month on CBC’s Hockey Night In Canada.
Since its October release, Jonas & The Massive Attraction’s second single, Seize The Day, has been a # 5 chart-topping hit in Montreal and was recently released to rock radio from coast to coast. The song was the # 5 most active indie track on DMDS and received immediate adds to regular rotation. Following a successful theatre tour last Fall in Quebec, which included a nationally televised half-time appearance before 58,000 football fans at Olympic Stadium for the CFL’s Eastern Final, the band will be hitting the road in March, throughout Ontario, Alberta and Quebec, to promote the new album and single. The band is keyed up to introduce its energized rock & roll stage show to fans across the country. Jonas & The Massive Attraction’s album Big Slice is the third album for rocker Jonas Tomalty. Since the release of his 2004 breakthrough debut album Jonas, which was produced by Dale Penner (Nickelback/Matthew Good Band) and featured the hit single Edge Of Seventeen, Jonas’ popularity has skyrocketed. The near platinum-selling album Jonas received rave reviews, was nominated for a Juno Award for Rock Album of the Year, and garnered an additional nomination for Jonas as New Artist of the Year. Jonas jumped to the international scene in 2004 as special guest on Van Halen’s North American tour. He crossed Canada in 2008 with Collective Soul, and created a huge buzz from a stellar performance at Popkomm in Berlin, Germany in September 2010. Jonas and guitarist Cory Diabo were in Varadero, Cuba last week, to perform at the Lapointe Beach Party, hosted by Quebec rock icon Éric Lapointe. Jonas is also featured performing live alongside Dan Aykroyd, Paul Shaffer, Colin James and James Cotton, as part of the new Downchild Blues Band documentary entitled Flip Flop & Fly: 40 Years of the Downchild Blues Band, that recently premiered on TMN and HBO Canada, and he will appear in the film Gerry, a story about the legendary rock band Offenbach. In the film, Jonas plays the role of guitarist John McGale. The film is set to be released on June 17, 2011.
The ‘T’ in Trews could stand for “tireless.” With four albums in seven years (two of them gold), ten Top-10 singles (two of them No.1 and one gold), awards for best single, video and live group, and close to 800 live shows under its belt (including support slots for the Rolling Stones, Robert Plant, Guns N’ Roses, Nickelback and KISS), this Canadian rock band never rests. With such hits as Not Ready To Go, She She’s Leaving, Poor Ol’ Broken Hearted Me, and a brand new single, Hope & Ruin, just released to rock radio on February 4th, The Trews are forever ready to deliver an intuitive and intense rock & roll show that these East Coast rockers from Antigonish, NS are renowned for. The band is headed to Australia for a month-long tour starting on February 23rd and will return home to launch their new album (also called Hope & Ruin), that is set for release on April 12. The Trews were recently nominated for four 2011 East Coast Music Awards including Entertainer of The Year.
